What is Scrum?
Depending on whom you ask, you will get different answers:
- A simple yet efficient Agile framework
- An efficient way of organizing, prioritizing work and delivering value to your customers
- A way of life (for its most fervent practitioners)
- An evil alternative to Waterfall/phase gates Project management
As per the Scrum guide – developed and maintained by Jeff Sutherland and Ken Schwaber – Scrum is a framework for developing, delivering, and sustaining complex products. Although Scrum originated in software development teams, it can also be used in variety of situations and industries as well as an alternative to traditional project management a.k.a. predictive models.
Some key takeaways on Scrum:
- Scrum is the most popular Agile framework in the world by far (over 80% of Agile usage as per the latest Agile survey)
- It is based on empiricism and allows to deliver business value in an effective manner (speed, quality, reduced waste…)
- Development based on Scrum is iterative and incremental and takes into account stakeholders’ inputs in order to decide what to do next
- It helps to speed up product delivery by slicing the work into smaller pieces and delivering those incrementally (see our dedicated article and the Scrum Guide)
- It is a framework of choice for projects and products that need to be delivered in a complex environment according to the Cynefin framework
As per its co-creators state, Scrum is simple to understand but difficult to master. Scrum comprise of roles, events, artifacts and rules which bind them together. As ScrumInc. trainers, we often refer to those first 3 components as the 3-5-3.

Why should you attend a Scrum Training?
Some very good reasons to do so:
- Learn a different way of working
- Increase your and your colleagues work efficiency
- Increase your market value
- Improve your wellbeing at work
The vast majority of companies in the world have now turned to Agile ways of working. What sets the differences between the good and the bad are how well they understand Agile principles and how diligent they are in applying them and learn from their mistakes. And this is what you should get from a training, a better understanding of the principles and how to apply them in your workplace.
What do I get out of the training?
First, it is important to know that there are many training organizations on the Swiss market providing Scrum courses. Some are accredited while others are not. They also have different contents and viewpoints in some areas. Nevertheless, the basics and the core of Scrum is the same in any training you might attend as long as you stick to trainings accredited by the 3 big ones (Scrum Alliance, Scrum.org and ScrumInc.). See more on this in our article on the 3 major Scrum certificates here.
We at Value Insights, are one of the few companies in Switzerland representing “true” Scrum as it is seen and taught by Dr. Jeff Sutherland (the co-creator of Scrum) at Scrum Inc. The goal is “Twice the work in half the time”.
Our training is therefore accredited and official, including Scrum credentials and online registry from ScrumInc.
At the end of our Scrum courses, you should be able to:
- Implement Scrum, the most widely used Agile framework in the world
- Help your organization cope with inevitable market changes
- Save time and money by reducing waste and impediments
- Enable constant and effective communication and feedback
- Reduce employee burnout and encourage sustainable pace
